Inspired by the captivating artworks of Maria Sibylla Merian, the Merian Fruit Bowl draws from three of her detailed botanical illustrations. Featuring an intricate combination of the Papilio nestor butterfly, Punica granatum (pomegranate), the Eurasian goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis), a fig, and a branch of Citrus aurantium (bitter orange), this piece is a celebration of nature’s beauty. At the centre, the ‘Goldfinch on a branch bearing Fig-like fruit,’ from Merian’s Drawings of Surinam Insects
